There are not many holidays that will truly get me excited quite like this July 14th, which is officially "National Nude Day". How can you tell I'm excited? Well, we'll leave that be for now and move on to something else... As much as it may sound like some perverted holiday thought up by a group of teenage boys looking to see some boobs for free one day out of the year, National Nude Day is actually a very serious holiday started up by the many nudist groups around the world. The message they are trying to convey is that the human body is a beautiful thing, in all shapes and forms, and should not be something that you are embarassed about. It's how we come into this world and for the few lucky of us it's also the same way we go out of it, so what's there to be ashamed of? If you got it, flaunt it, and if you don't embrace it and celebrate it.
There are no official known origins for National Nude Day, although one belief is that this "au natural" holiday was thought up of by New Zealand TV personality Mark Ellis, who offered a cash reward to anyone who streaked in front of Prime Minister Helen Clark back in 2003.
So celebrate accordingly by doing all your daily chores in and outdoors completely in the buff and be sure to top the night off with a good old fashion streak-off. I'm kidding of course, although it would be interesting to hear that conversation with the police when they catch you running down Main st. completely naked and you tell them you were celebrating a national holiday. So celebrate however you feel is appropriate and simply enjoy the skin you're in and embrace the joy and freedom that nudity can bring to all of us.
I'm not sure if there is an official "National Nude Day" theme song, but I would like to nominate "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred to fill that gap from this day forward since we are all too sexy for our clothes on this day...
